| March 7, 2013 | Monarch Metal has launched a web tool to help customers choose the right Monarch Z Clip for their hanging application. The Monarch Z Clip Selector Tool asks the user to input the environment of the project (indoor / outdoor), the clearance between the top of the panel and the finished ceiling, the material and thickness of the panel and the substrate of the mounting surface. The tool then returns a recommendation of which Monarch Z Clip to use, what screw to use with the panel clips on the rear side of the panel and what screw to use for the continuous lengths along the wall. | March 9, 2012 | 2012 Veneer Tech Craftsman's Challenge™ Judge Panel Announced; Entries Due June 1 Entrants in the eighth annual Veneer Tech Craftsman's Challenge™ will be pleased to learn the names of the three seasoned industry panelists who will judge this international design competition that highlights achievement in the use of natural wood veneer products. The trio for 2012 — each with a passion for hands-on woodworking — are Michael Bell, president elect of the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) and a senior manager with Allegheny Millwork, Lawrence, PA; midwesterner Tim Fixmer, member of the WoodLINKS USA board of directors and publisher of CabinetMaker+FDM; and Woodbury, TN, studio furniture maker Alfred Sharp, current president of The Furniture Society, who concentrates primarily in 18th Century American styles and builds pieces merging traditional design and proportions with contemporary idioms and exotic woods. | February 10, 2012 | VT Industries partnered with the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) for an Architectural Wood Door design competition for architecture students. The competition challenged the students to develop a door around the theme of looking at this type of threshold in all facets: energy passage, security, universal accessibility, physical composition, and most of all design. Total scholarship money awarded was $3,450, including $1,500 scholarship for the overall winning design. Participants were challenged to design a door to the AIAS President’s office, the door to the AIA/Library of Congress Reading Room, or both. In addressing the specific issues of the design challenge, submissions were evaluated on their response to the competition’s theme, Threshold: Portals To The Future, demonstration of familiarity with modern principles of architectural doors, creation of a door that relates to the context of its location, originality of design, clear and easily comprehensible design, and demonstration of compliance with all competition objectives and guidelines.
